trademark is a brand that’s been getting some major buzz within ‘minimalist fashion’-focused writers for its fairly (and i write “fairly” with a grain of salt at the ready) accessible price point, simple-yet-boxy shapes, and mild palette of neutrals with an occasional *pop of color* here and there. but did you know that the fairly fetal sportswear label was founded by chris burch’s daughters pookie and louisa? pretend not to notice that they sound like cartoon bunnies in a children’s book and focus on their fall collection. with a father and former step-mother so deeply ingrained in the industry, its no wonder that they wanted to spread those familial wings and develop their own style, one that lacks monogramming as well as overt logos.

as a long-time tumblr user (almost four years!), i am thrilled that many of my favorite brands are finally realizing what an amazing blogging platform it is and how it can easily assist in growing an audience, quickly spreading the word about a product, get instant feedback from said audience, etc. tory burch is one such brand.
off topic, but related simply because i just mentioned tory burch: she has been killing it lately. seriously. her spring 2011 collection? it’s classic burch bohemian with a dash of grandma chic and a sprinkle of eccentric upper east sider. i am drooling over:
that ruffled “quinn dress”
the baja-inspired “anthony hoodie”
her “clarence trench"
the “tory mini dress”

the tory burch spring 2011 collection was very un-tory burch-like, almost bordering on…(please stay seated)…plain. this isn’t meant to be an insult, per se, but i am intrigued as to how burch was inspired to design a line so different from her more bohemian past lines. she explained to style.com that “she was in the mood for elegant sportswear with clean lines and silhouettes.” eh.

the tory burch denim collection launch event

last night, i went to tory burch's denim collection launch event. i looked forward to attending since i had so much fun at her sunglasses presentation and couldn’t wait to play stylist. apologies for my poor photo-taking skills.

along with many of my fellow fashion-minded females, we were invited to put together a look created from the fall 2010 collection, based around a pair of jeans and boots. i created a chanel-goes-to-a-rock-concert aesthetic. each outfit is posted on tory’s facebook page where you can vote for your favorite. the winner will be gifted with the entire look. how cute was my model?

while i was there, i couldn’t help but drool over what was in stock.

seriously, aren’t you dying over that black/brown fringed clutch? i was — after i pouted about how i couldn’t afford to drop $250. but, seriously, dead. (and photos like this are the result of drinking two coronitas.) before i left, i was gifted with my own pair of bootcut jeans, which i look forward to wearing.

many thanks to jay and caroline and the rest of the tory team for inviting me!

go and vote for my outfit because we mutually love and respect each other.

i know a thing or two about ‘art teacher style’ (hell, my mom was one for 38 years) — that madcap, haphazard combination of patterns and textures, craft projects hanging from your neck — so, it should come as no surprise that i loved the tory burch resort 2011 collection. while burch said that the line was inspired by a trip to rajasthan, i’d say it was more from my favorite school period.

tory burch has proven that she isn’t just an airhead socialite. the girl has skills and her fall 2010 collection is the perfect example of this. “as i go, i want to evolve,” she told style.com. though she didn’t reveal this line’s inspiration, i saw a mix of grunge and studio 54. there were some sturdy anoraks (a must-have piece for fall), a feather-trimmed tunic and sparkles strewn about.

last night, i attended the soft launch of tory burch's first-ever eyewear line, open only to a select group of bloggers and online publications (because the internet is important). tory and i shook hands (i turned an interesting shade of fuchsia) and talked about the importance of accessories, why fold-up sunglasses are awesome, and the fact that her face tasted really good [on a cupcake].

the 25-piece collection is a whole lot more affordable than its counterparts and was inspired by burch’s icons, james dean, peter fonda, and faye dunaway, as well as her parents’ trips to greece, istanbul, and morocco in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. styles include cat eyes, shield frames, and aviators. prices for the flattering shades range from $145-280 and are now available in tb boutiques and online before launching in stores next month. and the designer has a lot on her plate, having recently founded the tory burch foundation, which provides economy opportunity to women and their families in the united states.

due to new ftc regulations, i am required to reveal that i walked away with a gift of my favorite pair. regardless, many thanks to ms. burch and the 360i team.
