thank you! i do not consider myself a “guru,” (i primarily experiment with one color cosmetics brand — my employer!), but i appreciate the compliment. matte is my typical go-to lip texture, so you’ve come to the right place for shade recommendations.
i don’t know if i’ve ever told you this, but there is a little goth girl hiding inside of me that cries to come out every once in a while — she cries tiny, emo tears. in an effort to appease her, there will likely be these lips in my future, but since nars has not yet invented black lip gloss, i’ll be combining black moon eyeliner and triple x gloss.
i’ve been trying to inject more color into my everyday but since it’s still a frightening process, i tackled beauty first. yesterday, i used the right side of misfit duo over the lid with just a dab of silver factory soft touch eyeshadow pencil near the tear-duct.

feel free to ask your question any day of the week, as long as you know it will only be answered on tuesdays! regarding your porcelain complexion, nars recently extended its range of shades in pure radiant tinted moisturizer to include terre neuve and groenland, the former of which ranks before alaska, previously the palest. if you’re looking for more coverage and/or spot treatment, add radiant creamy concealer in chantilly.
for obvious reasons, i have a strong affinity for nars cosmetics (for those who don’t know, it is my employer), but that doesn’t mean i don’t experiment with a variety of products and frequently read up on the latest in skin and haircare. through my research, i’ve found some new ones on the market that i can’t wait to try.
i was feeling pretty sassy with regard to my makeup routine in anticipation for yesterday’s press preview (work, not play); i created a base of the left side of new fashion rebel duo eyeshadow and layered corcovado soft touch shadow pencil on top.

note: this response is not to suggest you should purchase the exact products shown above as i do realize they are of a higher price-point. rather, keep the tips themselves in mind. (i choose to promote nars out of respect for my job.)
just in case you’re wondering how i’m organizing my makeup this week.
3.1 phillip lim fall 2013 (photo on the left c/o the sartorialist), you are doing things to me that no medium-rare filet mignon ever could. the jewel-toned layers, all that texture, the bedhead — it was all so good, i can still hardly stand it. what’s more? the nars team was backstage creating that chocolate lip everyone’s been going crazy for with just one product, mambo eyeliner pencil. place bets that i’ll be recreating it in the near future.
