fifi lapin tells it to you straight. (well, okay, moschino did in its cheap & chic fall 2010 collection, but that outfit looks way cuter on a bunny, don’t you think?)

giles deacon consistently churns out quirky handbags to accompany his collections. last season’s dinosaur purse? editors are still scrambling to get their hands on one. fall 2010 produced…fuzzy monster heads? yeah. this gives you the perfect excuse to decapitate your stuffed animals, by the way.

vogue nippon editor and street style fixture anna dello russo is fabulous. all things about her are fabulous (accent, wardrobe, sense of humor in a must-take-yourself-seriously world). in this clip, she shows us how to pack properly for fashion week. you may be surprised to learn that she loves abercrombie, but my favorite part? pointing at her couture: “i can’t wear this anymore because it’s done…this is ciao, finito. how we can please the bloggers then?”

at almost a week old, the reveal of alexa chung’s madewell collaboration is old news. but i didn’t cover it, so you have the pleasure of seeing it again. chung may have drawn inspirational illustrations herself, but i can bet that the collection’s pieces were already in her closet since most looks are of outfits already seen on the pseudo-celebrity. either way, prices will be affordable.

if you’re interested, expect the clothes to land in stores by september.

i’ve had a couple glasses of pinot grigio (settle down, “a couple” means two), so it is possible that my judgment is impaired, but…velvet jodhpurs? i’m sold. all other designers should throw in the towel because ralph lauren has this whole fashion thing down. while his fall 2010 was typical, full of his signature all-american style, there was just something about how the floral dresses floated down the runway. his are the sorts of pieces that start trends, become trends or outlast trends; the ones you’ll buy and then hand down to your children.

i gotta respect a designer who dons his models’ feet in duck boots. tommy hilfiger’s fall 2010 collection was entitled “preppy with a pop” and that it was. most of the pieces were wardrobe classics (khaki, trenchcoats, henleys, turtlenecks) with a modern twist designed for “a young katharine hepburn, someone combining an east coast pedigree with a touch of sass.” that could be me!

paris 68 revealed the yummiest, most semi-gothic fall 2010 line-up that i’ve ever seen. i’m not sure if that was how it was intended, but all those flowing capes made me want to hide in a cave, stroking my precious. and i hope you didn’t toss last year’s leather leggings because they’re back with a vengeance.

the j.mendel fall 2010 collection oozed class. new york fashion week has proved that it is all about fur for fall. it was seen on almost every runway. and if you were wondering, peta was out protesting the westminster dog show. editors can breathe easy; there was not a red-splattered fur coat to be found.

“i’ve been thinking about camping. it’s a theme i always return to—anoraks, parkas, eskimos, plaid, quilting,” said isaac mizrahi about his fall 2010 collection. uh, isaac? what kind of camping are you going on because the last zucker family outing involved taking an hour to put up one tent, having it pour the first night we arrived and then closing my thumb in a car door. needless to say, we never went camping again. now that i think about it, maybe i should’ve gone with you…
