the bug jewelry trend is reaching new, more realistic heights of popularity lately. first, refinery29 highlighted diana eng’s ladybug pins (it literally looks like you are covered in the tiny winged creatures). then, opening ceremony revealed the latest collection from delfina delettrez, which features the most covetable honeybee cuff.

not too long ago, i was invited to a spur-of-the-moment get-together at the showroom of melissa joy manning. since i didn’t know much about the designer, i did my research and realized that her pieces saw into the innermost depths of my soul. they were me, but in jewelry form. as i got to know melissa better, we became both words with friends competitors (she kills me every time) and friends; her wit is biting and talent unabashed. as stated, all designers are asked the same five questions and answers are unedited as they truly illustrate the passion and personality of the person who wrote them.

what was the first thing you ever designed?

a ceramic bead necklace for my mom. i made it for her in montessori school and she still wears it!

what is your most prized possession?

my business. as much as i love my new dries van noten peacock metallic and plexi glass shoes, i think i could live without them. my ability to express myself and get paid for it, not so much. that counts right? otherwise, i’d have to go with my wax and feather ostrich sculpture by manju shandler. his name is litmus. crazy guy elicits a lot of very interesting reactions.

how do you treat yo’self?

massages. the deeper the better.

i love working for a brand that gets women excited. within minutes of saying hello, they’re all “OMGZ, I LUV NARS,” whipping out their shadow duos or lip glosses. it’s kind of like a beauty rite-of-passage; a bonding experience with a stranger or friend over a luxury cosmetic. i’m happy to say that this occurs on a regular basis.

the club monaco fall 1 (meaning, first half) 2012 collection has been revealed and it is only adding fuel to my i-hate-summer,-please-don’t-arrive fire.

according to the retailer, “the focus remains heavy on color, texture and prints – with inspiration from linda mccartney’s life in photographs, sonia delaunay’s masterful block prints and the leading men of the silent generation.” this season skillfully blends traditional prep with a west coast twist and features many trends of the past year, including color blocking, tribal prints and vintage-inspired accessories.

last week, i attended a small event at lord & taylor celebrating the latest collection from echo design. did you know that the accessories brand has added carryalls to the mix? the brightly printed scarves, wraps, cover-ups, and swimwear have a new friend! in both patterned canvas and pvc patent, the bags are perfect for toting to the beach.

i’ve been a fan of echo’s scarves for years and it is especially exciting to see the family owned-and-operated brand branch out, especially when it means that prices are still affordable. all styles range between $20 and $108.

it’s a bag, baby! you use it to hold things! think of the duffle as any other—you can use it going to the gym (duffles are huge), to replace your plastic bags at the grocery store, as an everyday back-and-forth-from-work carryall, etc. what would i put in it? all of the above. i’m on the go every day of the week and often have to go from work to an event, so i need to carry everything that will keep me covered throughout the day.

Thank you so much for blogging about Aldo's The Other Bag a few weeks ago. I actually bought one after reading about it and enjoying it so far. Do you have any recommendations for large every-day bags (under $100, please) for ladies who like to carry a lot with them? Please and thank you!
