Hi Sara! First and foremost I really like your blog and I look forward to reading it whenever I log onto Tumblr. After having read a couple of your posts, I can't help but admire that you are not only in the fashion world, but you love what you do. I am a fashion major and I greatly aspire to work in the fashion industry on the cool, fast paced, yet not-so-snobby side which you have seemed to accomplish. What advice would you give to someone like me who wants to get involved ( getting an internship for example) without having to flee to New York like everyone else feels compelled to do?

thank you so much for your kind words! i hate to disappoint you and the others who have similar questions, but i do not work in the fashion industry, though i do research and write about it on a daily basis.

regardless, you are on the right track in recognizing the importance of an internship. while in college, i completed over six internships in a variety of different fields (public relations, archival studies, records management, entertainment, advertising sales, etc.) and i cannot stress enough how mandatory it is to get your feet wet in “the business,” whatever that “business” might be. reach out to the people you admire, ask for advice and how they got to their position — i am sure that most will tell you to work hard, work late, and never complain. be patient: your dedication and enthusiasm will pay off.
