Every two weeks here at The Odd Slipper, we’ll be bringing you “In Her Shoes” - an inside look into the shoe tips & tricks by petite-footed women in fashion.
Sara is currently the Community Manager at Glamour and a freelance fashion/marketing/branding writer. Her blog has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Lucky Magazine, on Racked, Fashionista and Guest of a Guest, among others. She loves chicken fingers, the History Channel, listening to herself talk, cashmere scarves and color-coding her closet. To fully grasp the awesomeness that is Sara, we strongly recommend that you follow her on Twitter at @sbz.
What were some of the shoe trends you had noticed when you were at WWD Magic?Neon, architectural heels, glitter everywhere. Basically, your feet will be wearing pieces of art come springtime.
Halloween footwear: heels or no heels? No heels, especially if you know you’ll be running around from party-to-party. Be realistic. Your body should be covered in fake blood, not real blood from the blisters you’ve developed on both feet!
What’s your favorite pair of shoes currently in your wardrobe? My favorite shoes are currently a subtle creeper from Aldo. I saw them at the Milk Studios pop-up shop and had to have them! I wear them with everything.
Do you ever transition your Spring/Summer footwear through to Fall/Winter and vice versa?  (i.e. boots in the summer, open toe shoes with tights in the winter?)I wear boots all year ‘round, but try to come up with ways to make them look less ridiculous when it’s 97 degrees outside. That usually means no socks and a bare leg. In fall/winter, add neutral, thick socks or tights in a fun texture.
If you had any fashion advice to give to small footed women, what would it be?Steer clear of too-round styles. They tend to make feet look flatter and stumpier rather than lengthening the foot, which, in turn, lengthens the leg.
What styles should petite feet particularly stay away from? Anything with an ankle strap—though I still insist on wearing them, they make me look at least a foot shorter (as in, Thumbelina-sized).
