the kaelen fall 2012 collection

i’ve been in the kaelen fan club for a minute now and was very much looking forward to seeing what new york-based designer kaelen farncombe had cooked up for fall 2012. stopping by her presentation yesterday afternoon did not disappoint. as per usual, the prints shown had depth, yet easily blended into the overall collection. lines were clean, though they had a fluidity and smoothness. i particularly loved the black lipstick, which added a bit of punk toughness to an otherwise conservative, feminine line. i loved that these clothes were so different from the loose, draping fabrics of the previous season; i could really see how much farncombe has developed as a designer.

the heart truth red dress fall 2012 fashion show

as i alluded to [the past few days], i attended the heart truth red dress fashion show last night, thanks to burlington coat factory. before receiving my invitation, the retailer presented me with the challenge of creating an entire outfit (dress, heels, jewelry, bag) out of $100. it was not nearly as hard as i had thought…

  • dress: $30
  • shoes: $20
  • purse: $30
  • earrings & ring: $8
  • total spent: $88

wearing my new look, i met up with burlington’s director of advertising, jennifer taylor, and we readied ourselves for the night. if you don’t know about this annual event, it is held to raise awareness of women’s heart health in america and done with the help of a bevy of female celebrities. this year’s included rebecca romijn, gloria estefan, patti stanger, rose mcgowan, christie brinkley, aisha tyler, and my former boss cindi leive. see the entire collection here. also: from now until easter, for every ladies and girls dress sold, the retailer will donate $1 to the foundation for national institutes of health, up to $25k, to support the heart truth and women’s heart health research and education.

okay, i don’t know who this person is that started the epidemic of bringing ipads to fashion shows and thinking it’s totally normal to use them as a camera, but the tomfoolery needs to stop. this is basically like blocking everyone’s view with a flat-screen television. get the hell out of here with that. you are ridiculous.

the first j brand clothing line

yesterday at the independent fashion bloggers conference, i had the opportunity of checking out j brand’s very first ready-to-wear clothing collection. wwd first announced the creation of this line in august, so i’ve been looking forward to seeing it in person, but um, i’m going to need a moment alone with these clothes, you guys. aside from the color palette being toned-down and accessible for even anti-color people like myself, the pieces themselves were uber mix-and-matchable. think: silk chambray shirts, menswear-inspired trousers, buttery leather jackets, and chunky knit sweaters.

the line is available for purchase online, right this moment, right now, today.
